Bolivia Coffee Greens
Commercial coffee production in Bolivia began in the 1920s, and today the country remains a relatively small producer on the global market. Around 90–95% of Bolivian coffee is grown in the Yungas region, where high altitudes, fertile soils, and well-defined wet and dry seasons create favorable conditions for high-quality coffee production.
Historically, Bolivia faced challenges related to geography and infrastructure, which complicated processing and export logistics. Remote farms in the Yungas were difficult to access, and long transportation routes to export ports in Chile or Peru often affected consistency and quality.
Over the past two decades, however, the sector has undergone significant transformation. Improvements in infrastructure, the development of local processing (including micro-mills), and increased focus on quality have helped reposition Bolivia as a niche specialty origin. Today, Bolivian coffees are valued for their clean profiles, balanced acidity, and distinctive sweetness, and regularly appear in high-level competitions such as Cup of Excellence.
